Letter from Spokesperson
April 20,
2004
Dear
LiverpoolFIRST Member,
We are
writing to you today because you have shown an interest in preserving the
quality of life in the neighborhoods of Greater Liverpool and
Salina. You are one of over 1,000 people who have joined
LiverpoolFIRST because you oppose the construction of a
Wal-Mart Supercenter at Route 57 and Liverpool Bypass.
You may think that one voice alone will not be heard against a big
company like Wal-Mart, but LiverpoolFIRST is
already making a difference, and we need your help now.
Collectively,
we can stop this project from going forward- and every voice counts.
You can help our cause by writing a letter to the Town of
Salina Planning
Board, as well as local newspapers to let them know of
your opposition to this project. Enclosed you will find a
standard letter that you can send, as well as an instruction sheet on how
to go about writing your own custom
letter.
You may have noticed many
letters to the editor over the last few weeks that speak in favor of a
Wal-Mart Supercenter at the proposed site. To date, the Town of
Salina has received about 70 letters supporting
Wal-Mart. Not surprisingly, this letter campaign was
orchestrated and sponsored by Wal-Mart at a Liverpool hotel for local supporters of this site. Wal-Mart
has also said that it will provide lawn signs and pay for advertising for
any group that wants to promote the Liverpool site!
Suffice it to say that your support is
critical-now more than ever.
The Salina Town Board needs to hear our voices, and in large
numbers. Each letter counts as a “No” vote, so
please have each adult in your home send a separate
letter.
LiverpoolFIRST
includes concerned residents from the greater Liverpool area including: Bayberry, Donwood, Galeville,
Johnson Tract, and the village, as well as supporters from all over
Central New
York.
We are not opposed to development. We want our community to remain
vibrant and enjoy economic growth. However, we feel that a project of this
magnitude would drastically increase traffic that would in turn have a
negative impact on surrounding neighborhoods, as well as the character of
our community.
Thank you for taking the
time to help with this worthy endeavor. Please take the time to encourage
the Salina Planning Board to say “NO!” to a Wal-Mart at the proposed
location, and help keep the “live” in Liverpool!
Sincerely,

Sharon
